Instructions on obtaining a duplicate Montana (MT) title

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled in Montana

The registered owner of the vehicle must follow these steps:

1. Download and fill out the Montana Duplicate Title Application.

2. You can do one of the following options:

Bring the application to the Motor Vehicle Division.

Time frame to get the title: Same day
Cost to obtain: $10.30

Mail the application to the County Treasurer Motor Vehicle Offices.

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled outside of Montana

The registered owner of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled in.
