Instructions on obtaining a duplicate Michigan (MI) title

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled in Michigan

The registered owner of the vehicle must follow these steps:

1. Download and fill out the Michigan Duplicate Title Application

2. You can do one of the following options:

Bring the application to the Department of State.

Time frame to get the title: Same day (select locations) - 4 weeks
Cost to obtain: $15  (+ $5 same day fee)

Mail the application to the Department of State.

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled outside of Michigan

The registered owner of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled in.
