How do I get a duplicate title in Michigan?

Instructions on obtaining a duplicate Michigan (MI) title

If the vehicle was last titled in Michigan

  1. Download and fill out the Michigan Duplicate Title Application

  2. Submit the application

    • Online at the Department of State

      • Time frame: 4 weeks

      • Cost to obtain: $15

    • In person at the Department of State

      • Time frame: Same day (select locations) - 4 weeks

      • Cost to obtain: $15 + $5 same-day fee

    • By mailing the application to:

      Michigan Department of State

      Lansing, MI 48918

      • Time frame: 4 weeks

      • Cost to obtain: $15


If the vehicle was last titled outside of Michigan

The registered titled owner(s) of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled.
