Instructions on obtaining a duplicate Vermont (VT) title

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled in Vermont

The registered owner of the vehicle must follow these steps:

1. Download and fill out the Vermont Duplicate Title Application.

2. You can do one of the following options:

Bring the application to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Time frame to get the title: Same day
(Montpelier office Only)

Cost to obtain: $35

Mail the application to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Cost to obtain: $35

Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled outside of Vermont

The registered owner of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled in.
