Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled in District of Columbia

The registered owner of the vehicle must follow these steps:

1. Download and fill out the District of Columbia Duplicate Title Application. 

2. You can do one of the following options:

Bring in the District of Columbia Duplicate Title Application and any supporting documents to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Time frame to get the title: 10 business days
Cost to obtain: $26
​ 
Mail in the District of Columbia Duplicate Title Application and any supporting documents to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

​Getting a duplicate title when the vehicle was last titled outside of District of Columbia
​
The registered owner of the vehicle must apply for a duplicate title through the state in which the vehicle was last titled in.
